Meet the Makers Shop Now Meet Ali the founder of Earth Harbor Naturals She's a beach wanderer, herbalist and health scientist, who created Earth Harbor Naturals out of her treehouse kitchen. How amazing is that? Ali says, "Growing up on the beautiful St. Simons Island, Georgia, I was instilled with a deep love of nature, the ocean, and island life at a young age. As a child, I created natural “beauty” concoctions to share with friends and family, from marsh mud masks to sea salt sprays. In grad school, I specialized in environmental health and toxicology. Through my scientific research, I learned how many toxins we are exposed to daily, how those synthetic chemicals negatively affect our health, and how to use beneficial natural alternatives instead. I wanted to make an impact with this knowledge. My husband and I chose to live in an off-the-grid treehouse we built as we began overhauling our lifestyle. A short time later, I was in a near-fatal car accident. Recovery was slow, painful, and anxiety-ridden as I suffered from both physical and mental injuries. A time came when healing seemed to completely stop, and I thought I would never regain my pre-accident self. At this time, I also found out I was pregnant with my miracle baby boy! The culmination of these life-altering experiences is when I knew I had to take clean living to the next level by being more critical of what I was putting both in and on my body. My biggest struggle with having a natural lifestyle was finding premium natural beauty products that lived up to my strict standards of being effective, ethical, purely natural, rooted in science, and all-around indulgent (while not breaking the bank!). That’s when I started making my own right out of my tiny treehouse kitchen — and Earth Harbor Naturals was born! Meet Iris and Calvin founders of Honey Belle ​ According to Iris, "In 2013, my mom started developing skin allergies to department-brand products. My parents are both holistic doctors of natural medicine, so my mom realized she could use her knowledge about herbs. Shortly after, I developed psoriasis. I then became OBSESSED with reading EVERYTHING on my beauty bottles, but I realized everything natural and organic out there was really expensive--especially as a broke college student. So I started hitting the kitchen and making my own recipes to help out my own skin problems (acne, acne scarring, blackheads, dark circles--basically what every young woman deals with)." ​ When asked what makes her products different Iris said, "What makes my product different is that when a recipe is born, they’re used by real humans on a daily basis. And they’re constantly tweaked and adjusted until we really fall in love with them. They are some of the happiest business owners we have met! When asked how Calvin became a part of the mix Iris said, "When we were dating, Calvin would scratch like he had chicken pox 24/7. His eczema was pretty bad, and he didn’t really do much about it. I made him some soaps with oatmeal (to soothe his itching) and sea salt (he said the ocean really helped his skin). It worked; so I shared it with our customers. Then one day, I was at his house and I forgot my facial soap, so I cut a small piece off of his sea salt oatmeal soap bar and used it on my face, and my face was INSTANTLY brighter. Both soap bars are now classic customer favorites in our product collection." ​ The heart behind this couple is so genuine. They give back through their Soap for Souls Project. They said "Social impact is so important to us here at Honey Belle. Our company culture is driven by the value of compassion, and pinpointing how we can make a difference by helping others. With our #SoapsforSouls Project, we donate a soap for each bar of body soap purchased from us. This passion project was born out of an accidental turn into the Skid Row area of Downtown Los Angeles. I saw a whole community out there, and I saw that they needed me. I thought to myself—'Well, what can I do to help them? I have lots and lots of soap.
